The future of computing

When Apple introduced its iPhone, something happened. Other phone manufacturers came out with similar devices in the following respects:
Touchscreen and Apps. Android came around the corner and brought a similar interface to the phone world, but running on cheaper hardware from several hardware manufacturers, and offering more features than the iPhone.
However, it's not important which one has the most features. It's the result that was caused by these new devices.

Today we're looking at a revolution in (mobile) computing. Some time ago, people started swapping their PC's for laptops. Netbooks came along as light versions of laptops, and netbook developers saw the same advantages of the internet, which is now everywhere (well, almost, hehe). The main thing that happened is the appearance of apps. Although some apps on iphone and/or android are native little programs, a lot of them are actually interfaces to programs that are cloud based, meaning they run on the internet, not on your hardware.

So the appearance of tablets is a very logical happening. The iphone started it all, but now it is getting interesting. Probably people will start ditching netbooks and in some cases laptops in favor of tablets. The iPad is here, but in the android world a much more interesting thing is going on: That market is already crowded with cheap tablets. These little devices all look attractive, have no keyboards (keyboards are sooo 90's) and are connected to the internet for their data as well as their apps.

I am writing this on a macbook pro ('07) which is a fine piece of machinery but I am seriously considering a tablet, to play, and possibly to start using as a work machine. And if you see that some of the tablets will be priced around $100, all you need some guts.

Even on the mac an windows platform, software is available to turn websites into apps. I see a revolution in the way we use computers.
